Welcome
to the Website Lockdown FAQ:
|
Here you will find information
regarding our subscription policies for daily-journal.com as
well as troubleshooting tips for setting up and using a login
name and password for our website.
- Why am I able to
access today's stories but I can't look up a story from a
year ago?
The Daily Journal is allowing everyone to view articles up to
7 days old. After a story is 7 days old it gets moved to the
archive section which requires a subscription.
- What is available
to subscribers only?
Subscribers have access to everything on the site. Anyone trying
to access a story more than 7 days old will reqire a valid subscription
(to either our online or print edition) to view them. All other
sections of the website including the Polls, Recipe Exchange,
Contest, and the Classified section will be open to everyone.
- How do I sign
up for an online account?
You have a couple of options:
- If you are already a subscriber,
you can click here to register for an online account
that will allow you to view the archives. You must provide
a valid e-mail address that you have access to and your
subscriber number.
- If you are not a subscriber, you may click here to view our subscription options.
We offer both online and print edition subscriptions.
- What type of
web browser do I need to view this website?
Pretty much any web browser should work, but it must
support SSL, cookies and minimal javascript. Most modern browsers
such as AOL, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, etc.
should support these features. If you are unsure as to whether
your browser supports these features or has these features
enabled, please contact your ISP or our information services
department at (815) 937-332 or via e-mail at webaccounts@daily-journal.com .
- Do I use the
same password for my dial-up or wireless account?
NO. Passwords used for your dial-up or wireless internet
account with The Daily Journal are completely
independent of the login name and password you must use to
access the archives s from the online edition
of The Daily Journal.
- Do I have to
subscribe to the print edition of the paper to view the online
edition?
In the past The Daily Journal required that in area residents
purchase the paper to view the online edition. However, The Daily
Journal has opened up the online subscriptions to anyone that
wants to view the paper online only.
- Every time
I try to log in and view an article I am taken to an error
page or back to the user menu page. What am I doing wrong?

after this, please contact us at (815) 937-3332 or via

- Are login
names and passwords case-sensitive?
YES. Your login name and password are both case-sensitive.
This means that if you set up your account with the login name James,
you must enter a capital J and lower-case ames.
If you type your login name or password in all lower-case or
upper-case letters, and it was not originally set up that way,
you will not be able to log in.
