Welcome to the Website Lockdown FAQ:
Here you will find information regarding our subscription policies for daily-journal.com as well as troubleshooting tips for setting up and using a login name and password for our website.

 
  1. Why am I able to access today's stories but I can't look up a story from a year ago?

    The Daily Journal is allowing everyone to view articles up to 7 days old. After a story is 7 days old it gets moved to the archive section which requires a subscription.

  2. What is available to subscribers only?

    Subscribers have access to everything on the site. Anyone trying to access a story more than 7 days old will reqire a valid subscription (to either our online or print edition) to view them. All other sections of the website including the Polls, Recipe Exchange, Contest, and the Classified section will be open to everyone.


  3. How do I sign up for an online account?

    You have a couple of options:

    • If you are already a subscriber, you can click here to register for an online account that will allow you to view the archives. You must provide a valid e-mail address that you have access to and your subscriber number.

    • If you are not a subscriber, you may click here to view our subscription options. We offer both online and print edition subscriptions.


  4. What type of web browser do I need to view this website?

    Pretty much any web browser should work, but it must support SSL, cookies and minimal javascript. Most modern browsers such as AOL, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, etc. should support these features. If you are unsure as to whether your browser supports these features or has these features enabled, please contact your ISP or our information services department at (815) 937-332 or via e-mail at webaccounts@daily-journal.com .


  5. Do I use the same password for my dial-up or wireless account?

    NO. Passwords used for your dial-up or wireless internet account with The Daily Journal are completely independent of the login name and password you must use to access the archives s from the online edition of The Daily Journal.


  6. Do I have to subscribe to the print edition of the paper to view the online edition?

    In the past The Daily Journal required that in area residents purchase the paper to view the online edition. However, The Daily Journal has opened up the online subscriptions to anyone that wants to view the paper online only.


  7. Every time I try to log in and view an article I am taken to an error page or back to the user menu page. What am I doing wrong?

    There is a chance that some of the cookies we use are not synched for our new login system on your computer. Please click here to synchronize these cookies. You should then be taken to the login page. If you are still having problems after this, please contact us at (815) 937-3332 or via e-mail at webaccounts@daily-journal.com.


  8. Are login names and passwords case-sensitive?

    YES. Your login name and password are both case-sensitive. This means that if you set up your account with the login name James, you must enter a capital J and lower-case ames. If you type your login name or password in all lower-case or upper-case letters, and it was not originally set up that way, you will not be able to log in.
